Artesa (ahr TESS uh) means "craftsman" and connotes "handcrafted" in Catalan, language of Barcelona and Artesa's owner, Codorniu, one of the world's largest and oldest wineries.
Central to Artesa's winemaking philosophy is that its roots are
in Carneros, but its reach is long. Although its winery and
estate vineyards are located in one of the best places on earth
to grow Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, it doesn't limit itself to
making two wines. Rather, it follows a multi-appellation
strategy, obtaining grapes from the best appellations for
growing each variety it produces. Artesa's grapes come
from some of the finest growers in California as well as their
own estate vineyards in Napa and Sonoma Counties. The result is
wines with unique and distinctive styles.
